This class is one that made me feel so unconfident about myself when we first started. I was constantly fearful I wasn’t good enough or like I didn’t have the skills that everyone else did. And while I am not leaving this class as an expert, I am living this class with the ability to both create content and critically consume content which are two skills I know I will be able to take with me for years to come.
What Happens After Spring 2022?
Well, I still have a dream that one day I will quit my day job and become an influencer but for now that isn’t a practical choice. I will however be able to bring these skills with me know matter where I end up being able to critically take in content is vital within all spaces to unsure you know the most current accurate information. As for content creation I now know I can market and brand myself in a way that is very different than my peers.
The biggest thing I am proud of myself for learning is professionalism. I learned how to schedule and select people for an interview and how to properly communicate my goals with them to create a great outcome for both parties. This class also helped me to network within the communication studies department which is critical to building a group of supportive creators around you. Those who push you to do better and support you when you finally get it right.
Lastly, I am happy I learned more about content consumption and how to critically consume content. Because we all will be consumers and producers of media content. Specifically, I learned to ask myself what the writer’s intention is and what are they hoping for me to take away from this? We noticed this especially when we took the time to look at news coming from Ukraine, Russia, and the US looking at all these news outlets allowed you to see how skewed the news was during this time. Rheingold helped us learn that critical consumption is imperative as a learner. It is important to be aware of the creation and consumption ethics of media because there is greater competition as more news outlets arise and so we will struggle to know what news is real unless we vet it ourselves.
What Did I Do and What Did That Teach Me?
1. Created a Flyer for an on-Campus Event

After creating this flyer for Heller, I am so much more confident in my ability to create something useful that matters!
2. Premier Pro- editing both a PSA and a short individual video

Above is me editing my individual video about Sydney Beason and her battle with cancer. She will be running this summer for cancer research! Learning to edit on Premiere Pro was one of my favorite things this semester.
3. Adobe Audition
4. How to live tweet an event
5. Flew a Drone- I utilized the DJI Fly app which was such a goal experience

6.Photoshop- editing photos utilizing graphics and light changes
The photo to the left is one I am most proud of I used the graphics featured and created text on this photo of the Furman gates as I took students on a walking tour of campus.
7. Learned More About Photography through the rule of thirds and composition

8. Anchored a Student Television Show- This was so cool!
I loved being able to anchor the FUNC because it was something I never believed I could do or be good at. Although I wasn’t great, I loved being on this side of production!
And so much more. The Best is Yet to Be!
