Creating a Zoey 101 Parody

Before this assignment I would have never believed I had the skill or ability to create such a fun video like Ella 101. The video covers the first scene of Nickelodeon’s hit 2000’s TV show Zoey 101. Being surrounded by other creatively minded people allowed me to learn more and expand my skills as a storyteller.

Our team’s cohesion was great we each were able to step into a role and execute it to our best ability. Ella and Colin served as our actors the two of them also had the most previous knowledge than anyone in our group, so Colin served as our editor and Ella helped to provide guidance to different shots and camera angles. Jalen Miller also served as an actor as well as our prop manager he made sure everything we needed for our scene was ready. Jalen also helped to film. Anna Weber served as a supporting actor she also provided insight during filming. Lastly, I directed and filmed the piece on filming day.

I was tasked with:

1. Finding the right camera angles

2. Telling people their marks during the sequence shot

3. Creating great composition for our short film

The above photo is one of the shots I created as the videographer. During our intro we mimicked the classic Zoey 101 intro with different goofy shots of us which I loved getting to create and Colin’s editing truly brought the shots to life.

The photo to the left is another shot I got to create with directing. We were able to use different camera angles which provided so much variety to what could have been a boring dialogue shot. The were skills I used during this shoot were ones I truly did not know I had until filming day, and I feel incredibly grateful to have furthered these knew skills to take them with me after this course. In the near future I will use my filming skills for my individual video. I will also be able to use these skills if a future employer ever needs a promotional video.
