I had the joy of recently creating a PSA. In this PSA I was able to share two of my passions creating content and awareness about the flaws in the education system. In the state of South Carolina there are currently 5 Anti-Truth Bills in the house. If these bills are passed it will limit teachers’ ability to teach history and with lower students’ awareness to people, whose backgrounds are not the same as their own. In the photo below is my PSA in Adobe Premiere Pro which is the software I used to edit and produce my PSA.

In my PSA I interviewed Dr. Katie Kelly who is one of the most influential teachers I have had at Furman University. She inspires me every day to work harder for those around me. Dr. Kelly is a former elementary school teacher in the Charlotte Mecklenburg school district and now is a teacher of literacy in both the undergraduate and master programs at Furman. I loved being able to interview her and learn more about the impact these bills could have on future generations of learners.
What I did:
1. Organized an interview with Dr. Kelly
2. Researched the topic of inclusive children’s books and critical race theory
3. Conducted and filmed interview with Dr. Kelly
4. Collected B-roll
5. Used Premiere Pro to edit and produce my PSA
6. Revised my video to make it better!

Because of my PSA I was able to work on my overall videography skills before this project I had never filmed a professional interview or b-roll and I now feel much more confident in both of those skills. I also learned how to use Premiere Pro which I had not used before this project. In the photo to the left I am utilizing Premiere Pro to edit my b-roll and interview.
These skills will become very handy in my future career mostly learning to select an appropriate person to interview. This was my first-time scheduling and selecting an interviewee which is a skill I will use often in a legal profession. I also feel more comfortable filming an interview which would serve as a resource in the legal field also.
